A step forward in tourism promotion

June 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Giving a shot in the arm to the much-awaited plans to promote tourism at Lambasingi in the Agency area of the district, land has been identified for taking up construction of a resort.

Twenty-two acres of land has been identified by the Tourism Department that creates land bank for taking up tourism projects, say sources. Of the land, the resort will come in 20 acres and it will take two years for completion.

The process of calling tenders will begin next month, it is learnt.

Lambasingi hits headlines every winter with temperatures dipping near-zero. It is considered an alternative to tourists seeking cooler climes for experiencing the chill and thrill of it. “They don’t have to go to Kashmir to experience such temperature,” says Visakhapatnam MP K. Haribabu who sees huge potential for tourism at Lambasingi.

However, it does not have any good hotels or resorts that would enable comfortable stay away from the din and bustle of the city. “I had gone there to enjoy the weather but having no place had to spend sometime in my vehicle and return,” said a tour operator who had gone there at a recent meeting on the rainbow tourism opportunities in the region.
