April 08, 2011 08:23 pm | Updated 08:23 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The leaders of Visakha Steel Workers' Union (VSWU) -- the recognised union of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant -- on Thursday asked the management of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited to expedite the efforts for allotment of captive iron ore mines by the State government.

VSWU honorary president and CPI (M) district secretary Ch. Narsinga Rao along with other union leaders met RINL Director (finance) P. Madhusudan and the General Manager and the Deputy General Manager of the Mines Department.

Mr. Rao, who met AP Mining Development Corporation Managing Director Praveen Prakash in Hyderabad recently along with MLC M.V.S. Sarma, sought more pressure from the management for allotment of mines with 15 million tonnes ore as a joint venture between RINL, the corporate entity of VSP, and APMDC.

The team also wanted that RINL should make all-out efforts for vacating stay on allotment of some mines to the company at Obulapuram. The stay was imposed following a petition lodged by Bellary Mines Company.

VSWU general secretary Varasala Srinivasa Rao, CITU leaders V. Dhanaraju and Peddiraju were present.
