TDP terms petrol price hike anti-people

January 17, 2011 12:43 pm | Updated 12:43 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Describing the petrol price hike as anti-people and finding fault with the Central and State Governments, the TDP has vowed to fight the abnormal hike till a rollback is effected. The party plans protests in all the Assembly constituencies.

The Government had imposed a heavy burden on people groaning under skyrocketing prices of essential commodities further dampening the festival spirit, TDP district general secretary Kona Tata Rao said.

He alleged the oil companies were indulging in unbridled increase of price under the plea that crude oil rates had gone up in the international market.

During the past six months prices had gone up six times, Mr. Tata Rao said. During the tenure of the UPA Government, the price was hiked 19 times by a total of Rs.24.43, he added.

While the crude oil price fell to $70 in the international market, the petrol price was reduced by a mere Re.1 and when it went up to $92, it was increased by Rs.3, he said terming the hike highly unjustified.
