Special status a non-issue, says Venkaiah Naidu

July 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:05 am IST - PUDI (Visakhapatnam District):

Union Urban Development and Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said there was no need to make an issue out of granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

In an oblique reference to ruckus raised by Congress and other parties in Parliament on Friday over Private Member’s Bill tabled by K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao on failure to grant SCS to AP, he said the NDA government was committed to develop AP as an advanced State.

“We will keep all the promises made for development of Navya AP. There is no need to indulge in politicking. We will set up all the premier institutes like IIT, IIIT, IIM, All India Institute of Medical Sciences and create infrastructure to attract investors,” he said at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of MSME Technology Centre here near Atchutapuram.

On the Polavaram project, he said foundation stone for it was laid in 1979. “Nothing was done by Congress when it was in power. They should not expect that we will complete it immediately,” he remarked.

Terrorist activities

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was toiling hard to ensure balanced development all over the country. Referring to recent terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir, he blamed Pakistan for aiding and abetting terror activities across the border.

The Minister said Mr. Modi had convinced all world leaders to launch a united war against terror outfits as terrorism was against humanity. “All of us should stand united to foil the evil designs of terrorists and their sponsors,” he said.
