RINL gets EMS certification

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd.,/Visakhapatnam Steel Plant became the first steel plant in the country to be accredited with BS EN: 16001:2009 for excellence in the energy management.

RINL had implemented BS EN: 16001:2009 Energy Management System in works department since July 2010 and also certified by Bureau Veritas Certification (India) (BVCI) on December 28 recently. Certification Manager of BVCI Southern Region in India, M Rama Mohan Rao, handed over the certificate to the CMD of Vizag steel plant P K Bishnoi, at a function held at MP Hall, Ukku Club on on Saturday.

RINL since its inception is adopting state of art technologies with maximum waste energy recovery systems. In the ongoing expansion activities also Energy Efficiency and Environment Protection is given utmost priority. RINL is the best integrated steel plant in India in terms of Specific Energy Consumption, according to a release.

Mr. Bishnoi complimented the VSP collective for achieving this unique certification. He appreciated the continuous efforts being put up by the works collective in reducing the specific energy consumption.

RINL is already accredited with the ISO 9001: 2008, Quality Management system; ISO 14001:2004, Environment Management system, and OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management system.

RINL is the first Public Sector Undertaking in India to get this honour of certification of all four systems. The implementation of the system would further benefit RINL in terms of reduced energy consumption, reduced Green House Gas emissions and reduced cost.
