Panel to fight against property tax increase

April 30, 2011 11:59 am | Updated 11:59 am IST - VIZIANAGARAM:

Town Civic Forum on Friday constituted a 12-member committee with an objective to create awareness among people in the fort town on the proposal to enhance property tax and also mobilise them to fight against it.

Lok Satta Party has taken the initiative in the formation of the committee as it felt that enhancing taxes without providing basic amenities must be opposed tooth and nail. B.A. Babji, State LSP vice-president, who chaired the meeting, nominated P.V. Narasimha Raju (Butchibabu) as president, Ch. Appala Raju, convenor, L.K. Jain and G. Pydithalli as assistant secretaries and eight others as members. Mr. Babji said that a plan of action would be chalked-out in the next one week.

Prior to launching various kinds of protests the forum would submit a memorandum to Municipal Commissioner demanding amenities in all municipal wards. It would also send an open letter to Minister for Municipal Administration demanding withdrawal of the proposal.

The meeting was attended by representatives from Chamber of Commerce, colony associations and Jana Vignana Vedika .
