July 28, 2010 12:42 am | Updated November 28, 2021 09:15 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

A day ahead of the commencement of the martyrs' week they are observing, CPI (Maoist) activists tried to blast a tower carrying high-tension power lines near Lankapaakala village in G.K. Veedhi mandal in the Visakha Agency on Tuesday.

According to reports reaching here, only one of the two landmines the Maoists fixed at the base of the tower went off but there was no damage, or disruption in power supply.

The 220 kv line carries power from the Sileru hydroelectric power station to the Gajuwaka sub-station here.

Late on Sunday night too, the Maoists resorted to violence but on a minor scale.
