A land-grab case was registered against Anakapalle MLA Peela Govinda Satyanarayana at Pendurthy Police Station here on Tuesday.

A resident of Pendurthy reportedly lodged a complaint with Police Commissioner T. Yoganand that some extent of his land had been trespassed by the MLA, who had even threatened further consequences if he reported it to the police. According to Pendurthy Inspector J. Murali, M. Rajesh Babu, a native of Pendurthy, who is currently in Oman, had sent a complaint through e-mail to the Police Commissioner in which he said that he had a house in 300 yards at Pendurthy junction. Beside it, there was a two-acre open site belonging to the MLA.

As per the complainant, the MLA trespassed and broke the gate and compound wall of his house, claiming that the area came under his site.

When approached, the MLA reportedly threatened him, stated Rajesh Babu in the complaint. At present, Rajesh Babu’s mother lives in the house, said the Inspector.

The Commissioner forwarded the case to the Pendurthy Police Station, where a case was registered under IPC Sections 447 (trespassing) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The Inspector said they had brought the issue to the notice of the tahsildar concerned, who would verify and decide to whom the land belonged. Further investigation is on.

MLA denies charge

When The Hindu contacted him late in the night, the MLA denied the allegations and said that the land actually belonged to him and was occupied by the complainant.

We had purchased the land eight years ago and the complainant had occupied about 130 sq yds. And this was brought to the notice of the MRO, who after conducing a survey had given us a possession certificate, said the MLA.
