Lammasingi in Visakhapatnam, also known as Lambasingi, has been attracting scores of tourists from far and near, ever since the mercury level dropped to 0 degree Celsius five years ago.

This year has been no exception. The temperature at Lammasingi was 5 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning. Many tourists from Telangana and distant places came in private cars and taxis. But they were caught unawares as there were no decent accommodation facilities. Many families returned to Narsipatnam, about 30 km away, for the night.

Lammasingi earned the epithet ‘Andhra Kashmir’ due to the chilly weather during the peak winter months of December, January and the first half of February.

Old building

An old building, renovated recently, is let out to tourists by a private party to tourists at the Lammasingi junction. A few tribals also rent out their rooms. But these can accommodate no more than a dozen persons. Many tourists felt the government should provide accommodation to enable them to stay over and enjoy the chilly weather in the morning.
