Restoration works are going on at a fast pace at the Visakhapatnam International Airport and the authorities are planning to resume international operations from November 1. Airports Authority of India (AAI) Regional Executive Director (Southern Region) Deepak Sastry visited the airport on Thursday and reviewed the restoration work at the airport.

“Around 80 per cent of domestic services have been restored and the efforts are on to restore services at the Customs and Immigration Office, which has been badly damaged. The scanners and damaged equipment have been repaired and everything is expected to be in place by the time the Air India flight arrives from Dubai via Hyderabad on Saturday (November 1),” say sources.

While the roof of the airport has been blown away by the gale damaging the equipment inside the airport, the metallic supporting structure, was intact by and large and this has come as a big relief for the authorities.

Temporary roof has been partially provided in the airport.
