The story of India is worth celebrating because of the growth in infrastructure, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command Anup Singh has said.

Roads, bridges, and flyovers and infrastructure for industry was required for society to prosper and for the economy to sustain, he said at a felicitation to Builders Association of India, Visakhapatnam Chapter Chairman and CEO of Geomardy J. Srinivasa Raju on getting four awards, including the coveted CIDC-Vishwakarma Award 2011, in a year, on Wednesday.

The infrastructure in India was still being compared to that of China, Vice-Admiral Singh said.

0He compared the situation in the country to the one in 1990 when the country's foreign exchange reserves went below $1 billion and it had to pledge gold to tide over the situation.

Referring to the earlier presentation of BIA activities wherein it met the Srikrishna Committee , he said going by the map, if at all Telangana was formed, Andhra districts had a chance of developing faster and better as human development always occurred within 300 km of coastline. He also paid tributes to the southern work culture and the yeoman services of Mr. Raju.

World Teacher Trust International Chairman K. Parvathi Kumar said Mr. Raju had to do better taking the award-winning work as a benchmark. Immediate past Chairman of BIA S. Vijay Kumar who presided said Mr. Raju richly deserved the awards. He offered services in areas that had hitherto been sourced from abroad.

The other three awards Mr. Raju received were: Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini award, International Gold Star Millennium Award and Vishal Bharati Gaurav Satkar of Delhi Telugu Academy.

Replying to the felicitation, Mr. Raju thanked all those who moulded him and said he was a mere instrument. It was after his coming into contact with Sadguru Sivananda Murthy and Vedant Academy that he saw homogeneity in humanity.

He thanked his guru Narasimha Rao of IIT, Chennai and EAS Murthy. All-India General Council members K. Kumar Raja and V.K. Raju and V. Bangareswara Sarma, a former professor of AU Engineering College, spoke.

The new office-bearers for 2011 headed by Chairman Ch. Ramakotaiah were installed. The other members installed were: Vice-Chairman V. Nageswara Rao; honorary secretary: K. Srinivasa Varma, honorary joint secretary: Kasi Viswanadha Rao and treasurer: Sudhir Oza.
