Improve your capability so that you can demand a job rather than request for one, District Collector N. Yuvaraj advised candidates attending the job fair being organised by the AP State Skill Development Corporation.
Speaking at the inaugural of a four-day job fair for graduates organised by the APSSDC at the Prism College here on Saturday, the Collector in his speech laced with humour urged the candidates to continuously upgrade their skills. “Having a degree is not enough. It is the skills that make the individual employable. It is the hunger to learn that makes an individual an achiever and this is very true in case of the people who come from the rural background. The candidates who come from urban and well off background are typically over confident and think they know everything and are unwilling to learn, which is why there are no major achievers from the urban areas.” Advising the students to develop a reading habit, he said that only with content comes confidence. He asked the students to develop their communication skills.
A thin line
In today’s world, the lines between professional degree and ordinary degree have blurred and many employers were hiring people with a conventional degree to do the work of a B. Tech graduate and the high competition has pushed down the wages of typical employment, the Collector noted.
“In the 21st Century critical thinking and problem solving and communication are some of the most important skills,” Director of AP Skill Development Corporation K. Lakshminarayana said. Excellence is a result of training and continuous exercise,” he said advising the candidates to develop a mindset focused on growth. Education enables individuals to think and how to choose, he noted.
Welcoming the APSSDC initiative to conduct the job fair, secretary and correspondent of Prism College D. Satyanarayana Reddy said the government’s involvement gave a sense of confidence to the students and said that the programme would help them improve their efforts to make their students industry-ready.
A number of ITES enterprises are recruiting on the first two days. On June 13 and 14, biotechnology and financial enterprises will be recruiting a number of MNCs and IT companies like Genpact, Tech Mahindra, WNS, ICICI Bank, Concentrix, 21st Century, Vulcan Express and Apollo Pharmacy, among others, are participating in the job fair.
