GITAM introducing distance mode courses

GITAM University is introducing post-graduate, degree and diploma courses through distance education mode, Vice-Chancellor M. Gangadhara Rao announced at a press conference here on Saturday.

The Distance Education Council, set up by the Central Government for recognition of open and distance learning institutes in the country, has accorded its permission to GITAM University to start PG, UG and diploma courses, based on the recommendations. “GITAM University is the first deemed university in Andhra Pradesh to get DEC’s recognition and we are starting Centre for Distance Learning to run the distance education programmes”, he said. The following programmes will be offered through distance education mode: Post-graduate programmes: MBA (general), MBA (HRM), MCA, M.Com, M.A. (economics), M.A. (English) and M.Sc (biotechnology). Under-graduate programmes: B.Com, B.A. (history, public administration and sociology), B.A. (politics, public administration and sociology) and B.A. (history, economics and psychology). PG diplomas are offered in communication skills, environment and sustainable management. Diplomas in computer applications and communicative English.

Prof. Gangadhara Rao said that economy growth was linked with enrolment in higher education. Pro Vice-Chancellor G. Subramanyam, Registrar P.M. Valli, Joint Director of CDL T. Srinivas, Principals of GITAM campus colleges K. Siva Rama Krishna and N. Laxmana Das and UGC Coordinator Ramakrishna also participated in the press conference.
