The Families Day at Sea for the families of naval personnel of Eastern Naval Command was conducted on Sunday by the Eastern Fleet under the stewardship of Flag Officer Commanding of the Eastern Fleet P. Murugesan.

The fleet of 18 warships of the Eastern Fleet displayed their maritime prowess through various manoeuvres and evolutions. The day started with the ships casting off before dawn and entering the Bay of Bengal. The various evolutions included search and rescue, anti-submarine warfare, submarine demo, missile firing by naval ship and Close Range Anti Aircraft firing.

This event was followed by jackstay, carried out in very close proximity to enable transfer of stores from one ship to another while moving. The event concluded with the fly-past by the naval aircraft over the ships. In this once-in-a year event, the families had an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the many naval operations in which the officers and sailors of the ships are involved throughout the year.
