Dermatology Department gets new equipment

A PUVA (psoralen and Ulta Violet A) unit and lasers were inaugurated at the Department of DVL (Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology) of Andhra Medical College (AMC) by director (personnel) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Kishore Chandra Das on Monday.

The new equipment was donated by VSP as a part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR). Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Das said the plant was continuing its CSR activities despite having suffered losses to the tune of ₹1,400 crore. The equipment donated was worth ₹6 lakh. VSP was contributing ₹13 crore towards CSR activities.

Executive Director (corporate services), VSP R.P. Srivastava said this was the first CSR project of VSP this year. He said VSP would examine the plea for maintenance of the equipment, if a proposal was made to it.

King George Hospital Superintendent G. Arjuna said the PUVA equipment would help in the treatment of skin disorders psoriasis and vitiligo.

He said the hospital has acquired world-class equipment for treatment of various skin conditions and the DVL department could be used to conduct research in dermatology.

AMC Principal T. Radha described the new equipment as another ‘feather in the cap of DVL’. Underlining the need for government institutions to publicise their work, Dr. Radha called upon the faculty and researchers from the DVL department to provide details of the equipment available, faculty strength and research done so that they could be updated on the AMC website.

Dr. P. Anila Sunandini, professor in the DVL Department, spoke.

Head of the DVL Department B. Balachandrudu, RMO K.S.L.G. Sastry and Dr. Bangaraiah were among those who were present.
