Bandh, a success in Vizag

January 04, 2010 06:53 pm | Updated 07:01 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The bandh to press for continuing the integrated Andhra Pradesh State on Monday was peaceful as well as a success in Vizag with the closure of shops, commercial banks and educational institutions.

The buses of Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation were confined to depots and those who were out on an emergency engaged autorickshaws plying on the roads albeit paying higher fares.

Praja Rajyam Party members staged a rasta roko at Isukathota on the National Highway No. 5 and police had to physically lift them to clear the passage.

Congress legislators Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao and Tynala Vijayakumar, and senior Congress leader Koyya Prasada Reddy led agitators to form a human chain at the Jagadamba Junction for a while to press for the demand.

Police pickets were seen posted at HSBC where there was an attack by agitators last month, and at the city offices of Satyam and Wipro near NH 5.

On Tuesday, the agitators plan to organise a rail roko in the event of any decision during Delhi talks which is not in tune with protecting the integrated State.
