20 militia members surrender

Seven commanders and 13 members of the militia of banned CPI (Maoist) have surrendered to DIG of Police (Visakha Range) A. Ravi Chandra here on Saturday.

They are from villages under Boyithili, Killamkota and Injari Panchayats of G. Madugula mandal and were reportedly involved in offences such as murder, attack on an ashramam in Gudalamveedhi, destruction of road laying equipment and participating in famine raids, along with providing logistic support to the Maoist groups, hanging banners and posters, cutting trees to disrupt traffic, etc.

Superintendent of Police Koya Praveen, Additional SP (Administration) D.N. Kishore, Additional SP (Operations) Vishal Gunni, Additional SP (Crime) N.J. Rajkumar and Deputy Commandant of CRPF P. Kishore were present. One militia members is Kimidu Chitti Padal (35) from Igasampadu under Injari Panchayat, who has B.Ed. degree. He could not get a job and started supporting the Maoists who were visiting his village.

Padalu said he had provided only food to Maoists. He wanted the government to lay road to the interior villages of Agency area while a few other surrendered militia members said they had decided to surrender as they were facing pressure from both the Maoists and the police. They felt that a police station should be opened at Maddigaruvu and Dr. Praveen said a proposal has been sent to the government.
