‘Tyagaraja Aradhana Mahotsavam’ to be feast for music lovers

More than 950 artistes from across the globe will be presenting over 300 concerts in the ‘Tyagaraja Aradhana Mahotsavam’ scheduled to be held at Kalabharati auditorium from January 16 to 21.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, secretary of the auditorium G.R.K. Prasad (Rambabu) said the mahotsavam, presented jointly by Tyagaraja Aradhana Trust and Visakha Music and Dance Academy, was meant to pay tribute to Saint Tyagaraja.

“Artistes will be performing programmes as per the slot allotted to them. Each concert will be staged for 10 to 30 minutes,” he stated, indicating that 953 participants have registered for the grand music festival out of 1,080 applications received.

Apart from Visakhapatnam, Carnatic singers from Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bobbili, Kakinada and the US will be taking part in the mahotsavam.

President of the trust C.S.N. Raju, secretary I.V.L. Sastry and chairman of the organising committee P. Gopala Rao said the festival would be organised on the lines of aradhana held at Thiruvaiyaru, roping in both renowned and amateur singers from across the world.

The festival would be inaugurated by Carnatic singer Malladi Suribabu on January 16.

Nagar sankeertana

‘Nagar sankeertana’, ballets and other programmes will be part of the carnival that concludes on January 21.
