Good news for selfie lovers. If the plans of the government go as expected, Vijayawada will soon have two selfie points with natural water and greenery in the background. The idea is to create a clean and green social infrastructure akin to those cityscapes present elsewhere in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, etc., for the public.

The miniature design of the signage has already been presented before District Collector B. Lakshmikantham who is keen to have the final model ready at the earliest.

The final aspects of the design will be discussed at the District Tourism Promotion Council meet which is scheduled to take place some time this week, according to the Collector.

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Lakshmi Kantham said, “After thorough discussions with several experts, we arrived at the design which reads ‘Mana Vijayawada, Neeli-Haritha-Nagari,’ which translates to ‘Our Vijayawada - the Blue-Green-City.’

One of the mega-sized signages will be installed at a vantage point near Haritha Berm Park where river Krishna and green patches can be seen in the backdrop.”

Another location

The Collector and a team of officials concerned are also scouting for another suitable location to install the second selfie point. Venues such as the Iron Scrap Sculpture Park near the Police Control Room, the PWD Grounds and a couple of other locations are most likely to be considered, according to sources.

Inauguration by CM

“If things go according to plan, the selfie points will be inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu by the first week of August. Given the tremendous response to the idea, we believe, the points will be abuzz with activity,” Mr. Lakshmi Kantham said.

Acccording to the initial proposal, the signage will be of 100 feet width and will be installed at 80 feet height. It is designed by a consultant engaged by the Tourism Department.
