An unmarried woman was allegedly forced to undergo surrogacy in a private IVF Centre in the city. The incident came to light when the victim approached the police on Saturday.

However, the hospital management denied the charges.

The victim, who worked as an ANM in a private hospital in Guntur district, alleged that a doctor couple lured her by offering ₹3 lakh for becoming a surrogate mother and gave some injections. She is a native of Bapatla in Guntur district.

The complainant alleged that she went to the Karthik Datta In Vitro Fertility (IVF) Clinic at Suryaraopet here through a friend a few days ago and the doctors there – Kolli Rajendra Prasad and Rama Devi – had agreed to pay the amount and admitted her in the hospital. They started treatment from August 8, she alleged.

Escapes from centre

When she allegedly developed giddiness and stomach pain, she reportedly refused to undergo the procedure and wanted to go home. But the doctors allegedly detained her for two days and gave some injections.

“She escaped and lodged a complaint with the police,” said Suryaraopet circle inspector M. Satyanarayana.

However, the doctors denied the allegations and said the woman came to the hospital in search of a job. “The allegations made by the woman are untrue,” Dr. Rajendra Prasad said.

“There is no written agreement between the victim and the hospital management. A case has been registered and the woman was sent to the Government General Hospital (GGH) for examination,” the CI said.

Acquitted in earlier case

A few years ago, Dr. Rama Devi and Rajendra Prasad were acquitted of the charges of cheating childless women with false scanning reports.
