The YSR Congress would support any coalition that would grant the SCS, said speakers at the “Vanchana pai Garjana” dharna organised at the Jantar Mantar Centre in New Delhi on Thursday.

The Rajya Sabha members, former Lok Sabha Members, senior leaders, MLAs, MLCs, Parliamentary and Assembly constituency coordinators staged a dharna to highlight the way the State and the Centre were “deceiving” the people particularly on the SCS, the Kadapa steel plant, completion of the Polavaram project and several other benefits listed in the Reorganisation Act.

Former MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy charged that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who worked with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for four years, had suddenly changed his stand and was making the latter the scapegoat for his own failures.

Mr. Naidu laid foundation stone for the steel plant but it was too late. He would never be able to build it because he was going to be defeated, he said.

Former MP Y.V. Subba Reddy said Mr. Naidu, who opposed the SCS initially, had changed his stand as elections were fast approaching. His party or Mr. Jagan were not afraid of Narendra Modi as being alleged. It was Mr. Naidu who was really afraid of him, he alleged.

Rajya Sabha member V. Vijaya Sai Reddy said the BJP would grant the SCS and implement the bifurcation act if it were sincere. He recalled how the party supported it in Parliament.

Party general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said the SCS was primary item announced on the day of bifurcation. The people believed that it was essential for the development of the State. Former Minister C. Ramachandraiah charged Mr. Naidu with sacrificing the interests of the State for his personal benefits.

Former MP Mithun Reddy, former Minister K Parthasarathi, former MLA Malladi Vishnu, former MP Satyanarayana Raju and film actor Prithviraj spoke at the dhanra which lasted till evening.
