Waiting time to see a doctor may be a thing of the past

May 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:08 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Waiting to see a doctor has become a tedious affair not only for those who are unwell but also those suffering from minor ailments.

The long queues that greet you at the hospital add to the sickness.

Those with minor ailments go straight to the pharmacist for symptomatic relief to avoid the long wait.

Despite the inconvenience to the patients, many nursing homes and clinics in the city do not have the appointment system.

A.P. Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (APNA) State president C. S. R. Prasada Rao says that less then five per cent of the clinics and nursing homes have the appoint system.

“The patients are treated on a first come, first served basis,” he says.

In the post-bifurcation scenario, the centrally located Vijayawada is emerging as an alternative to Hyderabad, which was earlier the health care destination of the united state.

Patients from all the 13 districts are now thronging the city for their health and medicare needs, increasing the congestion even more.

Clinics and nursing homes now have no choice but to modernise and introduce the appointment system.

Time Hospital Director Anil Kancherla says that the use of online clinic management software will go a long way in improving the situation.

Practo, an app that can be used for searching doctors and fixing appointments online, will begin registering doctors in Vijayawada from May 15.

Vijayawada will be the 23{+r}{+d}city, where the service will be available soon.

Using such apps, patients or their relatives can make appointments with doctors with clinics closest to them or in their areas while on the move or even sitting at home from their smart phones.

This will be a boon to small and medium sized hospitals (10 beds and below), which are currently facing a crisis.

“Small and medium sized hospitals are closing down because they are not recognised by the Arogyasri Health Care Trust and cannot treat patients eligible for the NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme,” Dr. Prasada Rao has said.
