Mayor Koneru Sreedhar along with some TDP corporators made an appeal to Minister for Energy K. Kala Venkatarao to allow adjustment of VMC’s dues to the A.P. Southern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APSPDCL) for its services against the cost of the plots to be given to the power utility by the civic body.

The municipal corporation owed ₹2.26 crore to the power distribution company towards deposits and pole shifting charges in the past four years.

The corporation had already paid ₹2.16 crore out of the total dues of ₹4.40 crore. On the other hand, the APSPDCL had sought VMC’s land for establishment of 12 substations across the city.

Mr. Sreedhar had asked the Minister to settle the ₹2.26 crore against the land to be given for the electricity substations.

Mr. Sreedhar also said that the APSPDCL had not given any concession on the charges so far and was erecting new poles without the VMC’s permission.

Deputy Mayor G. Venkataramana Rao, corporators U. Bhadhur, Ch. Gandhi, V. Lalitha, A. Venkata Vijaya Lakshmi and co-opted member Ch. Usha Rani were among the delegation which met the Minister on Sunday.

Officials of the civic body and APSPDCL were also present.
