Ankura Hospital for Women and Children organised a ‘Light of Life’ programme attended by parents of preterm babies on the occasion of World Prematurity Day, in the city on November 17 (Friday).
Preterm birth (before the 37th week of pregnancy) is a leading cause of death in children under the age of five. Each year, about 15 million babies worldwide are born preterm, that is about one in 10 children. The day is observed to scale up awareness about preterm deliveries and the concerns of preterm babies and their families.
Doctors, nurses and all the support staff of the hospital were felicitated on the occasion. Medical Director T. V. Vijay Kumar said the hospital had saved the lives of over 250 preterm babies, and had a 98% success rate in handling preterm deliveries.
Founder and Managing Director Krishna Prasad Vunnam said premature birth was one of the most common complications during pregnancy. He said the hospital was equipped with skilled doctors and staff to handle such complexities.
