YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma, unleashing a scathing attack on TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu during a day-long dharna on the Pulichintala project site opposing the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal award on Wednesday, said that if Mr. Naidu had taken up Pulichintala or Handri-Neeva project during his tenure, the award would have been in favour of the State. “He made no attempt to tap the surplus water,” she said.
Making a fresh attempt towards promoting a united State campaign, she said that people across Andhra Pradesh should at least now unite to stand up against the tribunal judgment.
Quoting her late husband, she said, “YSR always said that bigger problems can be sorted out only if we fight as a single large State. And hence it is time to unite and we should not allow the divisive politics of the Congress.”
While acquiring land for the Pulichintala project in Guntur district, 13 villages with 7,000 families were evacuated and only 4,500 families were given house sites and Rs. 1.14 lakh was given as compensation, as per the old rate and not according to the present RR bill. The remaining 2,500 families were yet to receive any kind of settlement, she said.
Party Krishna district convenor Samineni Udaya Bhanu pointed out that while YSR initiated over 80 minor and major projects under the Jalayagnam to irrigate over one crore acres of land, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu did absolutely nothing.
Leaders from all the three districts of Guntur, Krishna and Nalgonda such as Ambati Rambabu, Mari Rajasekhar, P. Gowtham Reddy and Jaleel Khan spoke at the dharna.
