Victim Compensation Fund constituted

The State Government has framed Andhra Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme 2015 in exercise of powers conferred on it by Section 357-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 for paying compensation to victims or their dependents who suffered loss or injury as a result of any crime and requiring rehabilitation.

Principal Secretary of Home Department B. Prasada Rao issued G.O Ms No. 43 on Wednesday.

A Victim Compensation Fund has been created for the purpose and the government is supposed to make budgetary allocation for making payments out of it.

Under the scheme, a special compensation of Rs 10 lakh is to be paid in respect of victims of acid attacks and sexual exploitation for commercial purposes in the event of loss of life and Rs 2 lakh in the case of rape.

A maximum compensation of Rs 3 lakh will be paid in cases of loss of life including dowry deaths, to persons aged 40 or below, up to Rs 2 lakh to those aged between 40 and 60 and Rs 1 lakh to persons aged above 60, Rs 2 lakh, Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively in cases of permanent disability suffered by persons in the same age categories as above.
