Deputy Chief Minister Pamula Pushpa Srivani on Friday said the distribution of financial assistance to auto and cab drivers will be a boon as a majority of them were under financial distress with the vehicles loans, insurance and maintenance charges.
Inaugurating the Vahana Mitra scheme that would ensure ₹10,000 financial assistance for them, Ms. Srivani said the scheme would benefit 10,992 auto and cab drivers in the district. She urged other auto and maxi cab drivers to utilise the scheme as it was extended up to the end of October.
Vizianagaram MP Bellana Chandrasekhar said that TDP government had never understood the grievances of auto drivers.
District Collector M. Hari Jawaharlal said that many of the drivers could not utilise the scheme since the vehicles were registered under other persons and private finance organisations. He assured to implement the scheme by resolving their grievances.
Vizianagaram Deputy Transport Commissioner Ch. Sridevi, in-charge RTO J. Ramkumar, Vizianagaram MLA Kolatagatla Veerabhadra Swamy, Joint Collector J. Venkata Ramana Reddy and others were present.
