Not many will disagree that English is a tricky language. There is often no connection between the spelling and pronunciation of a word; dough and tough are spelled almost identically, but have completely different sounds.

To master this difficult language, a rich treasure of vocabulary is the key.

Students of AP Balayogi Gurukulam at Tadepalliguem in West Godavari district, on Sunday proved that commitment and hard work are key to success.

Coinciding with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanthi, the school, run by the Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (APSWREIS), achieved a milestone on Sunday after its students, divided in five groups, achieved five record feats recognised by the Asia Book of Records.

In five different activities held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., students showcased their talent in both solo and group presentation of English vocabulary, longest march by Scotland Bagpiper Band team and by coding maximum C-Language simultaneously.

Six-month training

A group of 34 students drawn from Std. 5,6,7 and 8, replicated the royal aura of the famous Scotland Bagpipe march on the roads of Tadepalligudem, where passers by gazed at them with a great deal of interest and intrigue.

A six-month-long training in this royal march by their teacher Ch. Subramanyam got the school team an award presented by the Governor in the Republic Day Parade in the past.

Sunday’s activity was carried out at a stretch of 5-km distance under the supervision of the Asia Book of Records adjudicator Vinod Kumar Singh.

In the ‘Best Group Presentation of English Vocabulary’ category, four students recited 100 English words, their meanings and usage in a short span of five minutes.

In the solo presentation, T. Bharat Kumar churned out 100 English language words, their meanings and usage in 4 minutes and 18 seconds.

In the ‘Best Presentation of English by Groups’ category, 100 students gave out 5,000 words, their meanings and usage in one hour.

Meanwhile, another group of 50 students drawn from 5,6,7 and 8 classes concurrently displayed their talent in 100 programmes of C-language, a qualification most students achieve at B.Tech level, in one hour.

Apart from the school authorities, Junior Principal Civil Judge of Tadepalligudem Karimulla, town CI Subhash and a few other officials were also present on the occasion.
