A team of engineers and urban planners from Singapore visited the capital area of Amaravati on Thursday to come up with a plan to divert future floods from the Kondaveeti drain into a reservoir to meet the drinking water requirements of the capital.
A reservoir that can take in 7,000 cusecs of flood discharge is being proposed at Vadlamanu village in Thullur mandal. It would be built with a +40-80 contour level with a capacity of 5 TMC.
The Singapore team, comprising of Kiwan Chang, Atu Ann, Peoh Soonki, also proposed storage ponds at Lam, Neerukonda and Krishnayapalem to store flood waters.
The team studied the potential drinking water requirements of the future capital. The Pulichintala project, the in and out canals of the thermal power station near Ibrahimpatnam, and pollution of the Krishna river were some of the subjects of their study. The SE of Guntur Irrigation Circle, K.V.L.P Chowdary, Deputy EE M. Babu Raoapprised the team on the flood flow .
