The APSRTC Officers’ Association has urged the State government to grant Rs. 300 crore for purchasing 1,500 new Palle Velugu buses and replacing the old and rickety buses operating in rural areas.
The association’s request comes in the light of the recent mishap in Anantapur district where 12 people died after a bus fell into deep gorge on Madakasira-Penukonda road. APSRTC was bearing a loss of about Rs.10 each for every kilometre on Palle Velugu buses.
With pressure mounting on the APSRTC for improving services for the convenience of students travelling to different areas, Palle Velugu services played a crucial role in this regard.
Keeping the requirement for more services and losses suffered by the corporation for operating Palle Velugu buses, the government should come to the rescue of the corporation and bear the loss quotient every month, said association general secretary G. Shri Hari.
APSRTC is inducting 200 Palle Velugu services under hire purchase system and tenders have already been called for the same
