Science and technology has solved most of the bone and joint problems and there was no need for anyone to suffer pain or crippling ailments, said joint replacement and arthroscopy expert M.J. Naidu.

Speaking at a Bone and Joint awareness programme organised by The Hindu in association with the M. J. Naidu Super Speciality Hospital at K.B.N. College here, Dr. Naidu said bone that was growing extra fast could be chipped away, damaged cartilage that stopped acting as a cushion could be repaired or removed and bits of bones creating problems could be cleaned through a small hole in the elbow or knee joint because of technology.

Regular exercise, sufficient calcium and vitamin D were essential for healthy bones and joints. The maintenance of proper body weight was also important. Cycling was the ideal form of exercise for persons who were having knee joint problems, he said.

Legislative Council Member Boddu Nageswara Rao, K.B.N. College Principal V. Narayana Rao and College president U.Sambasiva Rao spoke. A team of doctors and paramedics screened the patients, tested their blood pressure and sugar, and dispensed free medication.
