Purvasha wins gold in national archery tourney

Volga Archery Academy archers led by Purvasha Shinde registered put up performance at the on-going third National Ranking Archery Tournament (NRAT) for sub-juniors in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Fifteen-year-old diminutive girl from Amaravati (Maharashtra) won gold and bronze medals in the two Olympic round events of the compound segment.

She defeated Parvati Nair of Meghalaya 145-138 to bag the bronze medal in the first Olympic round and later registered a 131-130 win over Ajanta Kumari of Jharkhand in the final of the second Olympic round.

Incidentally, she emerged as No.1 sub-junior compound archer of the country by winning the second NRAT event at New Delhi in March.

However, both K. Jyoshna and Geethika lost their way and bowed out in the quarterfinals.

Boys compound segment Volga’s Chiranjeevi Phani Bhushana Rao won bronze in the second Olympic round play-off, defeating Rathore 138-131 in the boys compound segment.Six archers – Ritul Chatterjee, Chiranjeevi, Geethika, K. Jyoshna, Anusha Reddy and Purvasha - will compete in the two-day junior ranking tournament that begins on Thursday.

Ranking tourneys The ranking tourneys are paramount important to archers, as they will be picked for foreign tours based on the points garnered in the fixtures. The top four archers in boys and girls segments will represent India in the Asian Grand Prix fixtures to be held at Taiwan.
