Police, in a strategic move to tighten grip on criminals, have devised a system. The software will maintain data pertaining to criminals, information about release of convicts from various jails and modus operandi of robbers.
At a meeting chaired by City Police Commissioner A.B. Venkateswara Rao recently, investigating officers from Krishna, Khammam, Guntur, East and West Godavari districts were told to share information about the movement of criminals for the software.
“Police can alert the neighbouring district police on release of criminals from jails and make their counterparts vigilant on occurrence of a crime within their limits,” Mr. Rao said. Giving the details of house burglaries, he said 156 theft cases had been reported from November last till date, of which 117 thefts occurred during nights and 39 during day time.
Police detected 31 cases and 72 burglars were arrested and the remaining cases are under investigation, said the city police chief. The Central Crime Station (CCS) police are taking measures to prevent thefts during summer. As part of it, police are distributing pamphlets besides enlightening the residents on dos and don’ts. “Police officers are making door-to-door visits and are explaining the residents on different modus operandi followed by criminals, and the measures to avoid thefts,” the Commissioner said. He asked house owners to alert police when strangers approach them for taking lease of their houses. Public are requested to take the full details of those who enquire for houses for rent and pass information to police through ‘Dial 100’, who will probe their background.
