The police on Saturday arrested Samayam Ramesh, 46, correspondent of Machilipatnam-based nursing college for women, on charges of seeking sexual favour from a student.
Speaking to newsmen here, Assistant Superintendent of Police M. Sattibabu said the accused had been arrested under the Nirbhaya Act and IPC Sections 354 ( Forcing woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354 A and 354D.
“In July, the accused allegedly attempted to sexually assault the girl in his chamber, reportedly after she refused to entertain his request for sexual favours. Later, she left the college hostel,” said Mr. Sattibabu.
The Investigation Officer and Bandar Deputy Superintendent of Police Mehaboob Basha said the accused had been produced before a local court on Saturday.
Women panel visit
Andhra Pradesh Women Commission Chairperson Vasireddi Padma on Saturday inspected the nursing college. Ms. Padma interacted with the students separately, and the students reportedly narrated their woes, including indecent behaviour by the correspondent.
