Naidu takes up plans for 14 airports with Aviation Minister

Issues related to land acquisition for airports discussed

Union Minister for Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapati Raju met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at his camp office on Saturday to discuss Andhra Pradesh Government’s plans to have 14 airports in the State.

The Chief Minister discussed with Mr. Raju issues of land acquisition and infrastructure facilities required for the new airports planned by the government. Issues of investments and revenue from airports to the State government also came up for discussion.

The Chief Minister said that the State would have 14 airports. Of these, three would be international airports at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati and 11 airports in different districts. 

Later, speaking to the media, Mr. Raju said the international airports proposed at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati were promised by the earlier government but were being implemented by the NDA government.

He said land was required for the runway expansion of Vijayawada airport and infrastructure upgradation would also be required.

The Union Minister also said that airport development was the responsibility of the Centre and the State could cooperate by providing land required for the airport expansion.
