In a gory incident, a man set ablaze three of a family, including his infant son, at Chittinagar area in the city on Saturday allegedly due to dispute.

The victims were identified as, Akula Roja, her son A. Vidya Sagar (eight months) and Korati Venkatamma.

Roja’s husband A. Rajendra Prasad, who allegedly resorted to the heinous act, too suffered burns. He is a medical representative.

According to the locals, Ms. Roja went to her grandmother Venkatamma’s house at Bangaraiah Kottu Veedhi at Chittinagar for delivery ten months back and was staying there. Due to family disputes she had not returned to her husband.

On Friday, the accused had a quarrel with his wife and her grandmother amidst attempts by community elders to settle the dispute.

On Saturday, Mr. Prasad reportedly poured petrol on the three persons and lit fire. He too suffered burns in the incident but is out of danger, said Two Town Circle Inspector (CI) N. Durga Prasad, who visited the spot.

“The mother and son suffered 70 per cent burns and Venkatamma suffered 55 per cent burn injuries. They were admitted to Government General Hospital and the condition of all of them is critical,” said CI.
