The ‘Freshers’ Party’ at Samana Institute for Design Studies (SIDS) on Thursday was all about fun and fashion.

Drifting away from the usual practice of senior students welcoming the fresh batch with song and dance, a ramp walk and other fun activities, the three-week-old freshers took upon themselves the task of entertaining the audience.

Exuding oodles of confidence, the junior students put on a dazzling array of clothes designed by them and sashayed across the ramp with élan.

The theme given to them being surface ornamentation, the budding designers demonstrated how value can be added to plain garments by way of embellishments, appliqué work, zardosi and sequins.

The participants, showcasing their embellishments on western outfits, strutted across amidst loud cheers by a delirious crowd of students.

“We have some very bright students in the new batches. It is heartening to see that the cliché of opting for a fashion designing course as a last resort is breaking. Girls now understand fashion and are keen to explore the science involving in fashion designing. The capital buzz has finally set the ball rolling for all things bright and sunny for fashion industry,” said an elated Samana Moosavi, CEO and managing partner of SIDS.
