A letter writing competition organised by the Department of Posts as part of the National Postal Week celebrations evoked good response on Sunday as more than 300 students from over 20 schools took part in the contest.
The competition was organised in junior and senior categories in which students wrote letters by selecting one of the three listed topics – ‘How did I spend my vacations?’, ‘One day in my school’ and ‘My favourite book’. The original letters were sent to officials concerned for finalising winners after evaluation while the photocopies were dispatched to grandparents of the children through the department to inform their grandchildren’s participation in the programme.
Senior post master Malladi Hari Prasad Sarma said three winners would be selected from the two categories and prizes would be presented to them. Five students opened philately accounts each paying Rs.200 and as many as 3,000 philately stamps were sold each costing Rs.5 on Sunday. The department has provided material for the children who participated in the contest.
