The leaders of Left and Jana Sena parties who were on indefinite hunger strike for houses for the poor called off fast on Sunday evening following an assurance from Joint Collector P. Babu Rao.

On behalf of the Joint Collector, local Tahsildar Rehman Mastan visited the hunger strike camp and assured that all the demands related to house registrations and allotments would be fulfilled by the government.

‘Victory of people’

He said the process of registrations for the beneficiaries, who applied at various platforms and programmes, will be carried out in a transparent way.

CPI(M) senior leader Ch. Babu Rao said that it was a victory of the people who have been fighting for their rights.

He said that the government should be ashamed to force people to remind its responsibilities every now and then by taking to streets.

Jana Sena Party leader B. Vamsi Krishna said that the ruling Telugu Desam Party and opposition YSR Congress Party have lost the confidence of the public.

Mr. Babu, Mr. Vamsi Krishna and CPI leader Ch. Srinivas along with others observed fast from Saturday morning.
