The Lakshmipeta Dalita Porata Sangheebhava Committee has demanded the State government to take necessary steps to institute a special court to inquire into Lakshmipeta incident wherein dalits were attacked brutally.
The committee, as part of Chalo Vijayawada, organised a meeting at Railway institute here on Monday. On the occasion, the speakers stressed the need for setting up a special court to inquire into the incident.
They also demanded distribution of 250 acre surplus land to the dalits in Lakshmipeta.
The government should distribute a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh to each victim who become handicapped in the incident. The compensation has to be paid according to the notification issued by the Central government.
The kin of victims of incident poured out their agony and grief before the audience. Borada Lacchamma, mother of Sundar Rao, who was killed in the incident, broke down in tears while narrating the ghastly incident. Bodduri Narsamma, wife of Bodduri Papayya, and Muttamma, mother of Chittari Appadu, were also present.
The relatives of victims trained guns against PCC president and Transport minister Botcha Satyanarayana, and demanded stringent action against him.
The family members were clueless and helpless.
The government was not coming to the rescue of dalits, who were massacred mercilessly. Men armed with axes, crowbars, country made bombs and lathis attacked the dalits in the village. The frenzied mob went on a blood bath, they said.
While the Kula Nirmulana Porata Samithi is pressing for a probe into the Lakshmipeta incident under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the protesters sought payment of compensation liberally for the next of kin of the killed.
G.Kaylan Rao of Virasam, Duddu Prabhakar of KVPS, Committee convener Bojja Tarakam, Gaddam Jhansi of Dalita Stree Sakti, Usha of BC Mahajana Samithi, and Moses of Tsundur Dalita Porata Committee spoke.
