LA Act Amendment

CPI plans ‘Jail Bharo’ on May 19

April 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has warned the Central government that all jails would be filled with protestors, if the proposals to amend Land Acquisition (LA) Act are not withdrawn. CPI national Secretary K. Narayana said that the party would stage a ‘jail bharo’ on May 19, in protest against the Centre’s move to amend the LA Act. The programme would be organised as part of a nation-wide protest. Accusing the Centre of safeguarding the interests of corporate companies, he said that the government was amending the LA Act to hand over agricultural lands on a platter to the corporate at the cost of farmers.
