YSR Congress leader Koneru Rajendra Prasad submitted his resignation to party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday.

“Owing to personal reasons, I have decided to quit politics. Therefore, I request you to accept this letter as my resignation and relieve me of the primary membership of the YSR Congress,” he said in the letter.

Mr. Koneru Prasad contested against Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) from Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency in 2014 general elections. Vijayawada witnessed intriguing contest. The magic of high profile candidate Mr. Koneru Prasad did not work in the election and he lost the election to Mr. Nani by a significant margin. Founder chairman and chief mentor of Trimex group, Koneru Prasad formally joined the YSR Congress in Hyderabad in March 2014.

After days of speculation he was finally inducted into the party by its president Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy.

His induction had finally settled all speculation for the MP seat from Vijayawada.

A first-time politician in last elections, Mr. Koneru Prasad claimed that he was a native of Vijayawada and was well versed in the political climate of Krishna district.

‘Homecoming’

“It’s like homecoming for me. I left the city in 1973 on professional and business pursuits but never lost track of this place. Both my father and my grandfather served as doctors in this city,” he said.
