May 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:02 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The State government has renamed the Indira Jala Prabha, the pet programme of the previous Congress government, as NTR Jala Sri. The project had been conceived for providing assured source of irrigation to fallow and uncultivable land belonging to six lakh SC/ST farmers.

The project was introduced as convergence project with Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme to consolidate gains made in the land development project to ensure sustainable and comprehensive development of land. It was introduced as a welfare measure in terms of enhancing the productivity of the lands. According to the orders issued on Thursday, the government had directed the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development officials to ensure that the word Indira Jala Prabha was replaced with NTR Jala Sri.
