Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao and Ministers P. Pulla Rao and N. Ananda Babu release posters on awareness on atrocities against children in Guntur, on Monday.

Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao has called upon people to instil a sense of courage and confidence in girls and treat them equally if not more than men.

Addressing a massive gathering at the Travellers Bungalow Junction after leading the ‘Adabiddaku Rakshanaga Kaduludam,’ on Monday morning, Dr. Rao reminisced of how he had felt while raising his children, with the eldest being a girl.

“I was staying in a rented house in Narasaraopet when my first child was born. The owner tried to console me, and I was surprised. I told him that I feel happy since my first born is a girl and named her Lakshmi. I provided all the support she needed and I am proud to say that today she is a doctor and an entrepreneur,” Dr. Rao said.

Stating that even after 70 years after independence, the nation still talks about women empowerment, the Speaker said that women should be provided with all support that can make them stand on their own.

Ministers P. Pulla Rao and N. Ananda Babu said that the awareness rallies were being held at all district headquarters in response to the call given by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. They reiterated that the day a man commits any atrocity against a child it would be his last.

Financial aid

Earlier, the Speaker released a set of wall posters prepared by Guntur Urban Police which would be pasted at all traffic junctions.

Chairperson of AP Mahila Commission N. Rajakumari said that the commission had always fought for the rights of children and women and cited many examples of financial aid being given to families in distress.
