The colony roads are lined with avenue trees like Gulmohar, Rusty Shield, Rain and trees of other species. Brundavan Colony with its wide roads and greenery has the best of both worlds. It is an ideal residential colony right in the heart of the city.
With the Mahatma Gandhi Road forming the boundary on one side residents are within walking distance to some of the best shopping zones in the city. The Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala, Tikkel Road and Bandar Canal along with the arterial M.G. Road, known to all as Bandar Road, form the boundaries of the colony.
Besides the shopping malls, jewellery shops, star hotels and the most sought-after restaurants that are a stone’s throw away from the neighbourhood it is also the address of some of the big companies in the city. One of the first residents of the colony is G.S. Raju. The US trained pharmacist, who recently passed away, put Vijayawada on the international bulk drug manufacturing map, by starting SIRIS Company.
His nephew G. Ganga Raju, who also resides in the colony, followed in his uncle’s footsteps to become the chairman of the Laila Group of Companies which owns several sugar factories. Efftronics is yet another company, which has its base in the heart of the colony, has made its mark in the export market. The TVS, the logistics company, owns huge tracks of land in the colony and Sundaram Honda showroom is also located there.
The most recent addition that has enhanced the prestige of the colony in the A-Convention Centre, the most expensive convention centres. Noted auditor Bellamkonda Subba Rao, who lives opposite the Convention Centre, says the arrival of the convention centre had changed the real-estate scenario of the colony.
In the centre of the colony is the Sindhu Bhavan, like a jewel in the crown, the Julelal Temple of the successful Sindhi Community. The income from the community hall is used to serve the poor, said the Puj Sindhu Panchayat member Baldev Aildas.
The commercial success of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Vinayagar Brindavan project, collaboration between the corporation and private developers, the first of its kind in the city, has enhanced the quality of dwelling units in the colony. The colony probably has the highest density of apartments and also some of the biggest individual houses.
The first independent house constructed by retired Income Tax Assistant Commissioner P. Kameswara Rao located opposite Mahita Public school is part of the colony’s heritage. Grandson of the grand old man, who passed away, is renovating the building.
