Sunday was a significant day in the history of Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) for two reasons.

First, ACA secretary and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) senior vice-president Gokaraju Gangaraju chaired the crucial Special Annual General Body Meeting (AGM), which elected Shashank Manohar as the new BCCI president.

Ranji match

And from the cricket perspective, the Andhra Ranji team for the first time managed to get a seven-run lead in the first innings over the mighty Mumbai during the ongoing Ranji match at Vizianagaram.

With this, the Andhra team bagged three points while the 40-time Ranji champion Mumbai team secured one point.

First person

Mr. Gangaraju is the first person from ACA to preside over a BCCI meeting. He was specially requested by Rajiv Shukla, M. P. Pandove and others to preside over the meeting called for to elect the new BCCI president.

After presiding over the meeting, Mr. Gangaraju declared that Mr. Shashank Manohar was unanimously elected the new BCCI president.

Manohar hailed

Later, Mr. Gangaraju and Sharad Pawar congratulated Mr. Manohar for taking charge as BCCI president.

He replaced Jagmohan Dalmiya, who died last month.

Mr Manohar had earlier served as BCCI president for three years from 2008.
