‘Fuel adulteration causing pollution’

Expert calls for effective mechanism to curb the menace

Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board Environmental Engineer E. Satyanarayana on Friday said that adulteration of fuel was one of the main reasons for increasing air pollution in the State.

Participating as a chief guest at a programme organised by The Hindu in association with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in connection with the World Environment Day at M. Narayana Prasad petrol pump in Autonagar here, Mr. Satyanarayana underscored the need for effective mechanism to check adulteration of fuel.

‘Need to change engine oil’

Listing outs different Acts that have been framed from 1974 for protecting environment, he asked vehicle owners to change engine oil at regular intervals.

IOCL Lab Deputy General Manager T. Raghava said quality of petroleum products would play an important role in protection of environment.

Free pollution check-up

He explained to motorists about the procedures involved in testing the quality of petrol and diesel and added that a series of tests were conducted from refineries till the fuel reaches retail outlets. The event was organised with a theme ‘Think Green – Reduce Carbon Emission and Save Environment’ at 20 petrol pumps of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

Motorists can avail a free pollution check-up for two-wheelers and four-wheelers at select IOCL outlets for six days from 9 a.m.

IOCL Chief Divisional Retail Sales Manager P. Kumaravel and other dignitaries were present.
