Four advocates arrested

Lawyers accuse police of foisting false case

December 20, 2014 12:29 am | Updated 12:29 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Four advocates, including a woman lawyer, were arrested on charges of tress passing and threatening in the city on Friday. They were produced before the court.

Following a complaint that the lawyers forcibly entered into a house and tried to illegally occupy the area, Machavaram police swung into action and arrested Mohan Rao and three others. Another advocate, T. Chiranjeevi would be arrested soon, according to City Police Commissioner A.B. Venkateswara Rao. The lawyers resisted the police when they tried to seize some records from their office. They alleged that police foisted a false case against them as Mr. Chiranjeevi had filed a petition against ‘operation night domination’ undertaken by city police.

“A PIL was filed in the High Court which had directed to suspend the operation. Police, who developed a grudge over the issue, were trying to harass advocates,” said a protestor.
