The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) warned the State government that it would stage massive agitations , if the latter failed to clear the air on farmers’ issues in Amaravathi.

The CPI(M) organised a maha dharna near Undavalli in Guntur district on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) Polit Buro member B. V. Raghavulu said the government has been promising moon, saying the land prices would go through the roof. A buy back policy should be announced to ensure that the government would buy the land, by giving the promised amount, he said.

With the government intending to lease out the prime lands to private agencies, farmers would be forced to lead miserable lives on the city fringes as marginalised sections. So, the government should allocate prime land to farmers as they sacrificed their lands to pave way for construction of the capital, he said.

The government was also expected to provide a job to at least one member in each family. It was also necessary to provide rehabilitation cards (R-cards) to farmers. Setting June 2 as the deadline, the CPI(M) leader said that farmers would register protest during the bhumi pooja on June 6. A massive agitation between the bhumi pooja and ground breaking ceremony would be built up , he added.
