Earthmovers summoned to clear up clogged drains

June 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Following the rains that have lashed the city in the last two days and waterlogging complaints from several localities, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) deployed earthmovers to clear the trash from drains to ensure free flow of water.

After Wednesday’s downpour left dozens of localities waterlogged, VMC Commissioner G. Veerapandian was up on Thursday to spur drain clearance work in the worst-affected localities of Nizam Gate, Wynchipeta in One Town. Squads were put to work to remove trash from the major outfall drain here and more earthmovers were summoned to clear up drains at BRP Road, Subbaramaiah street, Genda Chettu Centre. Mr. Veerapandian asked officials to ensure that there was no clogging of garbage at the iron grills in drains at Poolabavi Veedhi, Genda Chettu Centre and Gandhi Hill. Officials were instructed to clear the trash piled up in the streets without delay.
